Out of all the hats you wear, marketer might be the toughest. You know it’s important, but where should you start?

  1. Kick Your Website Up a Notch

Your website is your digital business card, but better. You should strive for a clean website (lots of white space), relevant images, good graphics and topical information about your services. Fortunately, there are a multitude of free or very low cost options to DIY it.

  • Canva for graphic design requires zero skills and many thousands of templates to choose from to make designing easy.
  • Find a good source for royalty free, cost free stock images, like Pixabay or Pexels
  • Design your own website for free with tools like Weebly, SquareSpace or Wix. Just drag and drop into one of hundreds of free templates.
  1. Play the Social Media Game

You probably have a Facebook page already, maybe in lieu of a website. But how often do you post? A regular cadence will give your followers a predictable experience with your brand. What should you post? Before and afters, testimonials, useful tidbits of information about your field - these are all good post fodder.

Advertising on Facebook is also very cost effective. For a relatively small investment, you can run highly targeted ads in your location. Facebook’s ad manager walks you through the process of setting up your first campaign in about an hour.

  1. Go for the Low-Hanging Fruit First

Low-hanging fruit is anything you can use to sell your business that you already have or can get to quickly. Think back to your very best jobs. Can you ask for a testimonial? Or, do you have great estimators that you can feature on Facebook? Sometimes the best marketing avenues are right at your fingertips.

Get started with these three tips, and maybe that marketer hat will come to feel as natural as your favorite baseball cap.
